Spend a little time in Watts!

Hello all,

I hope you are having a great looooonnnnng weekend.

Anyways, a few weeks ago the hubby and I went to Watts Towers. You know I have lived here for over 8 years and have never gone? What was wrong with me? It is completely fascinating. Unfortunately they were renovating one of the towers when we were there, so we could not walk in and among the towers, but we want to go back again, because they are supposed to be open for the public at the end of April.

I will give you a little bit of the history of them, but you really should go to the towers, check em out. You can do a self guided tour for free, and the history is written on plaques surrounding the towers. Or, you can take a tour throughout the towers for about $7. A very friendly older gentleman will tell you all kinds of interesting things about the towers, and the neighborhood.

Anyways, the towers were built as a "gift" to the city by a man named Simon Rodia. He spent started building them in 1921 and spent the next 31 years finding art, and adding it to the towers. He would come home from work at about 6pm, eat some dinner, take a bottle of wine and climb up the towers to continue work on his gift. And then one day... he disappeared.... I'm not gonna tell you anymore... you have to go see the Watts Towers to hear the rest of the story.
