Dining in the Dark

Have you ever heard of Opaque? Its a cool, yet a little bit pricey so it's definitely somewhere you go for a special occasion.

I have not been yet, but have wanted to go for awhile. Here's how it works, Opaque is only around on Friday and Saturdays at the V Lounge in Santa Monica. Once you get there you order your food while in a lighted waiting room. Then you are taken to your table in a pitch black room. Your server is partially blind and will help you on your "journey."

The whole idea is to feel what it is like to be blind, and experience food in a whole new way. To go on a food journey. To use your other senses. I love the idea of this, but then again I am willing to try anything... at least once.

I was reading different articles on the experience and some people were saying it can be hard to tell what your eating. Like they didn't realize they were eating a certain kind of fruit, they thought it was another type of fruit. At least you know what you order while in the waiting area, so whatever you are tasting is something you ordered and there are no surprises.

For those of you who don't live in LA, there are two other locations (with more to come) one in San Diego, the other in San Francisco.

So each persons 3 course meal, plus the Journey is gonna run you about $100.
For more info please check out the website... and who knows maybe I won't see you at Opaque. (oh I am so clever)
